1958 Satellite Metal Lunch Box

"SATELLITE" ORIGINAL LUNCH BOX – 1958-1960 American Thermos Products. 8.75" x 7" x 4". Color litho on flat metal. Great detailed art packed with outer space imagery (spacemen, spaceships, planets, rockets, satellites, and space stations) amid a great planetary surface. The Soviet launch of the Sputnik satellite in late 1957 sparked such space-age interest. NOTE: This is one of the few pop culture lunch boxes from the late 1950s not designed around a television show. Thermos bottle is not included. Colorfully designed with excellent eye appeal. Condition is considered GOOD to FAIR with moderate surface/stain/edge wear. Mild surface/rim dents with misc. scattered spot oxidation & litho scuffing. Oxidation is most evident on bare metal rim areas and latch/handle supports. 2" area of tape residue on inner box lid. No breaks or chips on plastic handle. Box latch still operates well. Thermos bottle is not included. Colors and imagery are still bold, bright and very attractive. Overall, we feel this scarce box is still in displayable condition by most standards (see photos).
